Hellmuth & Johnson Attorneys Selected to the 2016 Minnesota Super Lawyers List

Hellmuth & Johnson is proud to announce that partners Chad Johnson, David Hellmuth, Blake Nelson, J. Robert Keena, Earl Cohen, John Conard, Richard Hagstrom, Scott Nelson, Anne Regan, Marshall Tanick and Denise Tataryn have been selected to the 2016 Minnesota Super Lawyers list.  Each year, no more than five percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor.

Chad Johnson, Managing Partner and co-founder of Hellmuth & Johnson, serves as chair of the real estate practice group. Chad serves a broad range of businesses, corporations and limited liability entities, including condominium, townhouse, cooperatives and other community associations. He is also a Minnesota State Bar Association Board Certified Real Property Law Specialist.

David Hellmuth, co-founder of Hellmuth & Johnson, represents individuals and businesses in civil litigation, creditor’s remedies, banking and financial institutions law, real estate, and community association law. David has previously been named “Small Business Person of the Year” by the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce, and has served on and chaired the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Chapter of the Community Associations Institute.

Blake Nelson is a Minnesota State Bar Association Board Certified Real Property Law Specialist, a designation held by a select few Minnesota attorneys. Blake works with a diversity of businesses, primarily in the construction, real estate, banking and financial sectors. Within those groups, he focuses on construction law and litigation, real estate law and litigation, general corporate representation and creditor’s remedies.

J. Robert Keena serves as chair of the firm’s litigation practice and is an active member of the real estate, construction defect and property owner’s insurance coverage law practices. He has extensive commercial litigation experience in matters involving real estate disputes, shareholder disputes, trade secret protection, probate disputes, and large-scale tort actions. Robert is licensed to practice in the states of Minnesota and North Dakota.

Earl Cohen focuses his practice in the broad areas of estate, business, asset protection planning, and estate administration where he assists his individual and business clients with the organization, operation and financial reorganization of their interests. Earl regularly provides professional business clients with asset protection strategies as part of their estate and business plans, and advises fiduciaries and beneficiaries on their obligations and rights.

John Conard has handled more than 2,000 criminal cases in Minnesota. As a defense attorney and the chair of Hellmuth & Johnson’s Criminal Law Department, he has taken serious felonies to trial ranging from murder to misdemeanor domestic assault. John’s legal background includes times working as a prosecutor and public defender which gives him a unique and valuable level of experience. That experience combined with a dedication for continuous improvement makes him an excellent advocate for clients.

Richard Hagstrom is an experienced negotiator, litigator, and trial attorney. He has represented individuals and corporations in high-exposure matters both in state and federal courts across the country, and has recovered nine-figure settlements for his clients. He handles cases ranging from antitrust actions and environmental claims to issues in the entertainment, sports, and commercial sector. Richard brings a combination of strategic and creative thinking, tenacity, strong work ethic, and incredible legal talent to achieve successful results for his clients.

Scott Nelson has nearly 30 years of experience providing legal counsel to individuals and closely held businesses in the areas of tax, business and estate planning.  Licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin, his areas of concentration include business succession planning, coordinated estate planning for complex estates, and advising all types of families on transfer of assets as well as legacy and philanthropic planning during lifetime or upon death.  Scott’s practice includes advising trust and estate fiduciaries (trustees and executors), beneficiaries and charitable organizations.

Anne Regan represents both private and public clients in large-scale commercial and employment class actions and multi-district litigation across the country, in cases involving the financial services, healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, food and agriculture, transportation, and manufacturing industries. She is licensed to practice is Minnesota, Illinois, and numerous federal district and appellate courts. Anne also provides pro bono services to the Minnesota Federal Bar Association Pro Se Project, and has taught legal writing at the University of Minnesota Law School.

Marshall Tanick has represented clients in a wide variety of legal matters for over 40 years, with an emphasis on employment law, constitutional law, education law and business disputes. Marshall is a contributing columnist for Minnesota Lawyer magazine, Bench & Bar magazine, the Star Tribune newspaper, and has published many articles in other newspapers, magazines, and books on business, financial, and legal topics. Marshall is licensed to practice in the states of Minnesota and California, and has been certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association for more than 20 years.

Denise Tataryn practices ERISA litigation and employment law at Hellmuth & Johnson where she devotes a substantial portion of her practice to clients seeking long-term disability benefits and other employee benefits. Denise has been practicing in the employment law area for nearly 30 years and has gained a great deal of experience with ERISA litigation while working with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Denise is also a frequent speaker on ERISA and employment law litigation, with a particular focus on disability issues.
