Lee R. Bissonette, Chair of the firm's Medical Negligence Department, works with three associates and countless independent medical practitioners in several areas of specialty. Lee exclusively represents plaintiffs, also called the patients, in such cases against healthcare providers. Some of his results include:
- A 3.75 million dollar settlement in a Midwestern state involving negligent management of the pregnancy, labor and delivery of twins. The mother had developed a complicated problem early in pregnancy which was improperly treated resulting ultimately in catastrophic brain injury to the twins;
- A 2.2 million dollar settlement involving delay in delivery of an infant in spite of ominous indications on the fetal heart monitor tracings. The child ended up with cerebral palsy;
- A 3.75 million dollar settlement involving a brain-injured individual who was receiving conscious sedation for an office procedure. The patient went into cardiac arrest which was not properly and timely recognized by the staff resulting in permanent brain injury to the patient;
- A 3.5 million dollar settlement involving a physician who placed a mother in an ambulance for a two-hour trip to a referring hospital at a time when the baby was in a footling breech presentation and near delivery. The ambulance never reached the referring facility and the baby was delivered at a small-town hospital resulting in permanent and catastrophic injury to the baby.
Lee assists families and individuals with a broad range of injury cases including:

Lee has more than 25 years of experience representing victims with catastrophic injuries, including those caused by medical malpractice. He has aggressively and successfully fought for his client's rights in multiple cases involving children with cerebral palsy caused by birth injury, poor neonatal care, or failure to diagnose meningitis or group B strep. He also represents children and adults injured as a result of misdiagnosis, surgical or radiology mistakes, failure to diagnose cancer and other types of malpractice.
Lee has recovered millions of dollars in damages for his clients, including a $3.75M award in 2004, the largest reported medical malpractice recovery for that year. In 2005 his recovery of $1.8M for clients involved in an auto crash was one of the top personal injury recoveries in Minnesota for that year. In 2006 and 2008, Lee's medical malpractice recoveries ranged from more than $1M to $2.75M.
In 2006, Bissonette was named to the Minnesota Super Lawyers® list by Minnesota Law & Politics magazine; only 5% of attorneys are chosen each year. He is AV® Peer Review Rated - the highest possible Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Board Certified in Medical-Professional Liability from the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, he is a member of the Hennepin County, Minnesota State and American Bar Associations; The Association of Trial Lawyers of America; Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association; and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
Lee is licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts of Minnesota and North Dakota. He attended the United States Military Academy, obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and his J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Santa Clara.
