Kathleen M. Loucks

Kathleen Loucks is a member of the firm's Litigation Practice Group, where she represents both businesses and individuals in a broad variety of litigation matters. Kathleen focuses her practice in the following areas:

• General civil litigation
• Construction litigation
• Medical malpractice and personal injury

As a former prosecutor and civil litigator, Kathleen brings aggressive representation to all of her clients at the state, federal, and appellate levels.

In her civil and construction practice, she represents homeowners with claims against builders. Hellmuth & Johnson has successfully represented hundreds of homeowners in these types of claims. The goal in representing homeowners is to obtain enough money to repair their homes from major construction defects. Kathleen also represents builders and contractors in filing mechanic's liens in an effort to get paid for improvements to real property. She has also been involved in lawsuits against insurance companies by builders and contractors in an effort to obtain insurance coverage.

Kathleen also represents individuals and families injured by medical malpractice and catastrophic injury. The Hellmuth & Johnson medical malpractice/personal injury department has represented a husband and wife who could not have children due to medical malpractice, and was able to obtain a monetary settlement in that matter. The medical malpractice/personal injury group also represents women who have been injured and disfigured in breast reconstruction cases, and individuals who have sustained a brain injury from surgical errors, failure to properly resuscitate and other catastrophic injuries.

Kathleen has been named to the Minnesota Rising StarsSM list 4 times (2006, 2007, 2008 & 2011) by Minnesota Law & Politics magazine, only 2.5% of young attorneys in the state are selected each year.

She is on the Advisory Board for the Minnesota Innocence Project, a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association and sits on the Bench and Bar Committee, Minnesota Women Lawyers Association, Minnesota Brain Injury Association, and the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association. Kathleen is also a member of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Association for Justice and she is on the Program Advisory Committee for the Department of Legal Science at the Minnesota School of Business. Furthermore, Kathleen has also taught as an adjunct instructor at Hamline University School of Law and volunteers for Simpson Housing Services, Naomi Family Center, Minnesota Brain Injury Association and the Hennepin County Project Homeless Connect.

Kathleen is licensed to practice law in the State courts of Minnesota and Iowa, and the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota. She obtained her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law and her B.A. from the University of Minnesota.
